Stars react to news of Tom Petty’s death at 66

Fellow musicians and other big-name stars fondly remembered Tom Petty and mourned the loss of the iconic rocker after news of his sudden death spread Monday.

Stevie Van Zandt, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow and Peter Frampton were among the acts to pay tribute to Petty, who died at 66 a day after going into cardiac arrest, according CBS News.

“I loved Tom Petty and I covered his songs because I wanted know what it felt like to fly. ‘you belong somewhere you feel free,'” Mayer tweeted.

Frampton was in disbelief after learning of the rock legend’s death.

“I can’t believe we have lost Tom Petty on this already horrible day,” he tweeted. “My love to his wife & children and the entire Heartbreaker family.

Van Zandt, who is a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, shared a similar sentiment in his emotional tribute.

“Man this cannot be happening. Not Tom Petty please,” he tweeted. “Our deepest love and condolences to his family and band. A brother and true believer.”
