Jets kicker Chandler Catanzaro was moved to tears in the locker room Sunday after connecting on a 41-yard game-winning field goal with 28 seconds remaining in overtime.
Last season with the Cardinals, Catanzaro missed seven field-goal attempts and four extra points. Arizona opted not to re-sign the 26-year-old in the offseason. Catanzaro then won a kicker competition with Ross Martin in training camp.
“That was a huge one for me, to be honest. Kicking wasn’t very fun for me there for a little bit. But I had fun doing that. That was a cool moment. I’m just thankful for the opportunity,” Catanzaro said, choking up. “I’m proud of my guys and just thankful to come through.”
Catanzaro missed a field goal at the end of the first half after the Jets successfully executed a fake punt.
“I actually had a weird feeling all week that it might come down to a field goal,” he said, “and sure enough it did.”
